True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto has revealed some juicy details regarding the second season involving casting and location for the popular crime anthology. He told public radio's To the Best of Our Knowledge, “we’re working with three leads. It takes place in California — not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser known venues of California — and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in season one.”
Season one found Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey in Louisiana trying to solve an old murder. The slow burn grittiness of the storytelling is perfect for California who has been the backdrop for countless pulp and noir tales in books, television and movies. Another self-contained season will bring new actors but not the one that's been floating around.
Casting will begin in earnest in the coming months but despite reports Jessica Chastain doesn't appear to be involved.
