Volume 1 - 1st printing. "1955!" Collects Hit (2013 Boom Studios) #1-4. Written by Bryce Carlson. Art and cover by Vanesa Del. WHY WE LOVE IT: You say your crime noir story is based on a group of hardpolicemen during 1950s Los Angeles that did a little wetwork under the table, ridding the city of its scummiest residents one lowlife at a time? And it features the art debut of Russ Manning Award for Most Promising Newcomer nominee Vanesa R. Del Rey? Oh, we're so there. WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT: Noir crime fiction is a part of Americana, from the writing of James Ellroy and Raymond Chandler to the films of Orson Welles and Alfred Hitchcock. HIT joins titles like TORSO, CRIMINAL, and GOTHAM CENTRAL as a grand contribution to crime noir comics. WHAT IT'S ABOUT: They say the eyes are the window to the soul. You look at Harvey Slater and you'll see a homicide detective chasing cigarettes with a few fingers of bourbon. You look into his eyes, and you'll see a hitman who spends his nights making "untouchable" criminals disappear for the Los Angeles Police Department. But all it takes is a blonde bombshell from his past and a crime syndicate trying to muscle in while Mickey Cohen's in prison to open Slater's eyes to who he really is. REVIEW: 'Genius: Cartel' #1 (of 5) by Adam Freeman, Marc Bernardin, and Rosi Kampe

"Seventeen-year-old Destiny Ajaye took on the LAPD in her South Central Siege and paid for it-not with her life, but with her freedom. Now, Destiny is sequestered in the Madrasa Institute, a government school for prodigies. But will she use her gifts to wage war at the military's behest-or is she already planning another revolution?"

It also drives her crazy that her field boss doesn't listen to her suggestions resulting in disastrously executed operations. But what is a teenage prodigy to do when your only ch…

RAVEN YEAR 2 Begins: The Teenage Lesbian Pirate's Quest for Love and Vengeance

RAVEN is a pirate revenge adventure, a soap opera full of messy teenage love stories, and about a dozen coming of age stories set on the high seas. Think "Legend of Korra" at sea with an all female cast.

This series has one of the most diverse and exciting casts of any comic on the market. It's full of action, adventure, and revenge - but even more full of love stories and soap operas. RAVEN is one of the first YA comics with an openly gay leading lady. But on top of that, it has a cast of women who represent a wide spectrum of the LGBTQ community. It's equal parts soap opera and actual opera.
Writer Jeremy Whitley hopes readers experience "Joy, connection, and love" when reading this book. He goes on to say that "It's a book where different types of people are heroes than what we're used to, especially in YA fiction. I feel like everybody should be able to find at least one character they either relate to or fall in love with in the pages of t…
