What do you do if you're a supremely talented director known for District 9 and Elysium and have a passion for one of the most iconic sci-fi films in Alien? You create a series of magnificent concept art illustrating your vision for the next sequel of course. Neil Blomkamp states it was his own personal project and had nothing to do with the studio. Regardless, the result is amazing.
His latest film, Chappie, opens on March 6, 2015 (trailer embedded below) but took time on his Instagram account to share these illustrations causing fans to wonder how awesome a Blomkamp-helmed Alien movie could be. The studio also corroborates that there were no plans for a film much to the dismay of the director's followers.
The pics depict Ripley with a Space Jockey helmet, an enraged Xenomorph Queen, Weyland-Yutani headquarters and the reappearance of Hicks (?!).
Alas it may have been the movie pitch to a proper Alien film that we'll never see. Sigh.
After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot.
