The Wrap broke the news Monday night that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures will collaborate on the film future of Spider-Man. The web slinger will appear in a Marvel movie before launching another installment for Sony in 2017. Sony will continue to retain all movie rights to the character but will work with Kevin Feige and Marvel on future projects. Read the release below:
UPDATE 2: Wall Street Journal reports that the Marvel film Spidey appears in as alluded to in the release is indeed Captain America: Civil War. It was the only logical choice considering the timeline of films due out and Spidey's involvement in the storyline from the comic book.
Also, Andrew Garfield will not be returning as Peter Parker after two features for Sony. The planned Sinister Six movie has been delayed indefinitely.
UPDATE: Four Marvel Cinematic Universe films have new release dates in light of the news of Spidey joining a Marvel Studios feature.
- Thor: Ragnarok will hit theaters November 3, 2017
- Black Panther will be released in theaters on July 6, 2018
- Captain Marvel on November 2, 2018
- Inhumans will now debut in theaters July 12, 2019
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 on May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 retain their original release dates.
