NEW COMIC BOOK DAY: Notable Releases 8/31/16

NEW COMIC BOOKS DAY 8/31/16 by Slidely Slideshow
This week in comics is especially strong with indie comics. Top Cow alone has a great crossover event when Postal, The Tithe, and Think Tank collide in an exciting new special. If that wasn't enough there's also a new issue of Postal this week where all hell is about to break loose. Action Lab's best title Tomboy by Mia Goodwin is back for another tense issue. The Paybacks resurgence continues with Heavy Metal as the publisher and issue two. Among Image Comics' best this week look at Saga and Tokyo Ghost. InSexts (AfterShock), Afterlife with Archie (Archie), Bloodshot (Valiant), and Enormous (trade, 215 Ink) are more of this week's impressive haul of independent comics. On the Big Two side, DC's "Rebirth" rolls on and Marvel's Black Panther trade is a must buy.

REVIEW: 'ReincarNATE' #1 by Michael Moreci, Keith Burns, and Chris Beckett

★★★★☆ (4/5)
Heavy Metal Magazine has become a fine publisher and curator of comic books. They have a knack for giving new life to underrated properties in need of a new home. Along with the revival of Donny Cates and Eliot Rahal's 'The Paybacks' after Dark Horse Comics declined to continue the series, Heavy Metal has relaunched Michael Moreci and Keith Burns' self-published 'ReincarNATE.'
Before the new continuing series lands, HM has re-released the original 4-issue arc beginning with this week's #1. It's a pulpy detective story with a twist. Here's the official description: Nate McCoy isn't your ordinary private detective. Sure, he's a bit of a slacker who doesn't follow orders and loves to rattle the status quo's cages, but that's not what really sets him apart. After rattling the wrong cage, Nate took a bullet to his head that, somehow, didn't kill him. Instead, it gave him an unusual ability: He can see and interact with pa…

Weird Trailer: 'Justice League' Gets Looney Tunes/Naked Gun-Style Parody

What do you get when you mash Looney Tunes, Naked Gun, and the Justice League trailer together? You get one of the wackiest and funniest movie trailer parodies ever to come down the internet. Created by the twisted mind of Aldo Jones, the 3-minute video is a gag-a-second spoof featuring Danny Trejo as Wonder Woman, Ghostbusters (all of them), Eddie Murphy as Cyborg, a Pez-head Gal Gadot for some reason and a ton of other bizarre visuals. The video is so weird it's appropriately called "Justice League Weird" and you don't even need drugs to enjoy it but you'll feel like you went on an acid trip. Enjoy!

Deathstroke as Nemesis to Affleck's Batman is a Refreshing Change

When you think of Batman's long line of villains you think Joker, Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy. If you're director of the Batman solo film, Ben Affleck, you have other DC Comics characters in mind. As evidenced by the video tease on his Twitter feed Monday morning, it looks like Deathstroke will have his big screen debut.
https://t.co/0NsNzCtGip — Ben Affleck (@BenAffleck) August 29, 2016The Wrap reported shortly after Affleck's mysterious video that Deathstroke will be the main antagonist in the standalone Batman movie. So that helps explain what could be test footage of Slade Wilson, mercenary, and assassin, also known as Deathstroke the Terminator. Could he have a part in setting up the Batman solo with a cameo in 'Justice League'?

Created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez in 1980, Deathstroke first appeared in 'The New Teen Titans' #2 and went on to become DC's deadliest assassin and went from mercenary to villain to anti-hero back to sup…
