REVIEW: 'Britannia: We Who Are About to Die' #1 by Peter Milligan, Juan Jose Ryp,and Frankie D’Armata

★★★★★ (5/5)
After a brilliant origin story in the previous volume, Britannia: We Who Are About to Die, lets loose its protagonist, Antonius Axia, the world's first detective in a new harrowing mystery.
The former soldier turned "detectioner" after a brush with death, Antonius must aid the Vestals who imbued him with the understanding of human psychology, in investigating a grisly murder. As Nero descends into madness, he threatens the Vestals to turn Rome's misfortunes around by appeasing the gods or else. The stakes couldn't be higher for everyone as a seemingly routine crime scene takes on a supernatural turn.
The disembowelment of Rome's high-born has everyone shaken. Antonius must wade through the toxic masculinity of Rome's hierarchy and Nero's paranoia to gather clues and find leads. Peter Milligan unfolds a dense and intricate plot that seamlessly combines history with fiction. This is a legitimate murder mystery that touches on a few contemp…

Ugh, and also the constant assassins and secret cabals organizing against her to kill her baby because he's the dark lord incarnate who will usher in the apocalypse...well, that is just not helping either...

REVIEW: 'Broken' #1 by Johnny Parker II, Jose Garcia, and Paola

★★★★☆ (4/5)
Inspired by his love of video games, American comics, and Japanese manga, Johnny Parker has created the 'Broken' comic as a love letter to his passions in an all-ages adventure that is fun and relatable.
In a world where one of the most popular games is 'Cyber Scrap Battle,' a 3D fighting game whose downloadable characters learn to fight through its AI, it's up to the user to train them to get better making equal from the beginning. When bullies destroy his control icon holding all his stored game data, teenager Patrick Carter has to find a new one. He gets his hands on an older version of the game with a character who's been passed around for being a terrible fighter. It's up to Patrick to prove his point - that any character can be a winner with the right training.
This is the general premise and it works perfectly to draw the reader in to not only see Patrick prove the bullies wrong but get redemption for the video game character known as Erin…

REVIEW: 'X-O Manowar' #2 by Matt Kindt, Tomas Giorello, and Diego Rodriguez

★★★★★ (5/5)
It may be spring but Valiant is bringing us a red-hot summer blockbuster in 'X-O Manowar' from Matt Kindt and Tomas Giorello. Issue one blew off the doors at comic shops with over 90,000 sold. That's unheard of for an independent publisher but 'X-O Manowar' is worth every bit of hype who've heard and more.
Movie studios put together these gigantic tentpole films that usually consist of over-the-top action full of explosions and elaborate stunts. Comic book readers, however, don't have to wait for the next movie to premier when 'X-O Manowar' is available right now and it's chockful of action, adventure, and gasp-inducing stunts.
Aric of Dacia has been forced into combat leading a small team to destroy Cadmium's defenses. They'll have to go through an impossible gauntlet of obstacles to get there. This epic space adventure is a cross between 'Flash Gordon,' 'Die Hard,' and 'Lord of the Rings.' It's a fa…
