Jay Faerber and Sumeyye Kesgin Imagine Amelia Earhart's Whereabouts in the Fantasy 'Elsewhere'

Comics/TV writer Jay Faerber (COPPERHEAD, Zoo) teams up with rising star artist Sumeyye Kesgin for an all-new fantastical series, ELSEWHERE, coming this August from Image Comics.

What really happened to famed airwoman Amelia Earhart? As it turns out: a lot.

Somehow transported to a strange new world filled with flying beasts and baffling alien civilizations, Amelia desperately struggles to return home. Along the way, she forges alliances and makes enemies as she goes from aviatrix to freedom fighter in a rebellion against a merciless warlord!

“ELSEWHERE is the kind of series I've wanted to tackle for a long time, with exotic characters, fantastic creatures, and huge scope,” said Faerber. “But I needed a relatable character to hang everything on. I found that character in Amelia Earhart—she's inspiring, courageous, and most of all, real. And I've found the perfect partner to help me navigate this thrilling adventure: artist Sumeyye Kesgin. She's incredible, and absolutely vital to bringing this world to life.”

“It's an incredible experience working with Jay Faerber!” said Kesgin. “He's one of the best writers I've ever known, and I was really fascinated when he first showed me the outline of the story. I am having fun while creating the entire ELSEWHERE universe because of my love for fantasy and aerial concepts, and I feel really honored, as a female artist, to draw Amelia Earhart.”

ELSEWHERE #1 Cover A by Sumeyye Kesgin (Diamond code: JUN170635) and Cover B by Andrew Robinson (Diamond code: JUN170636) arrives in comic book stores Wednesday, August 2nd. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, July 10th.

Advance praise for ELSEWHERE:

“Distinctive and energetic art brings life to this skillfully written high adventure story.” —Mahmud A. Asrar (All-New, All-Different Avengers)

“I haven’t read anything as flat-out fun as ELSEWHERE in ages. The immensely clever writer Jay Faerber takes names you know and sticks them together in a place that’s hard to imagine. Luckily, artist Sumeyye Kesgin imagines the bejeezus out of it!” —Cully Hamner (Red)

“ELSEWHERE had me hooked from its opening pages! Faerber and Kesgin are weaving a beautiful spectacle within an intriguing and unique mystery. I can't wait to read what happens next! Put it in my pull list already!”
—Patrick Gleason (Superman)

“Rousing adventure and rollicking fun. Another rock-solid comic from Jay Faerber, who consistently—and apparently effortlessly—makes great comics I love.”
—John Layman (CHEW)

"ELSEWHERE is a blast! Fun, fantastic, and occasionally heartbreaking. Jay Faerber’s lively script is a surprise, given the context of loss and mystery, but he makes it work beautifully. Of course, Sumeyye Kesgin’s art has a lot to do with the success of that script. Her work, while charming and beautiful throughout, absolutely blossoms in the more fantastic scenes, and that makes the book sing!"
—John Arcudi (RUMBLE)

"What if Amelia Earhart didn't crash, but instead somehow ended up in a land of dragons and a rebellion and evil emperors? ELSEWHERE is high fantasy with a warm heart and the type of high concept that makes other writers bite themselves that they didn't think of it first." —Rob Williams (Suicide Squad)

You don't have to be familiar with the original series to enjoy this new iteration. REVIEW: 'Slots' #1 by Dan Panosian

Created, written, and drawn by Dan Panosian, 'Slots' #1 is his baby and he has a story to tell at his own damn pace. This beautifully illustrated story is centered squarely on former boxer Stanley Dance and his attempt to find redemption despite being someone without many redeeming qualities.

SLOTS #1
Writer: Dan Panosian Artist: Dan Panosian Publisher: Image Comics Release Date: October 4, 2017 Cover Price: $3.99
Score: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
'Slots' is more of a character study than a rip-roaring crime caper but Panosian's protagonist is a charming cad, full of confidence, capable of swindling you out of a restaurant bill with a devilish grin on his face. He's headed back to Vegas to fulfill a favor he owes. He returns to his old haunts where everyone knows him and knows he must be playing some kind of angle. 'Slots' succeeds because Stanley is so magnetic even when he's a jerk he's interesting. So following him around town meeting up with old friends is…

PREVIEW: 'BEAUTIFUL CANVAS: Collected Trade' by Ryan K Lindsay, Sami Kivela, and Triona Farrell

Coming next week from Black Mask is BEAUTIFUL CANVAS, an elegant, gorgeously rendered, insanely twisted story that's kind of like The Professional if Leon was a queer hitwoman and Matilda was a boy with powers.

Written by Ryan K Lindsay (Eternal, Negative Space, DC Writers Program), illustrated by Sami Kivela (Abbott), and colored by Triona Farrell (Doctor Who), Beautiful Canvas was a breakout buzz book in 2017 that continues to garner increasing acclaim and attention.
Synopsis:
Beautiful Canvas is 2017's smash hit warped crime miniseries about Lon Eisley discovering the similarities and differences between her job as a hitwoman and her new role as a mother-to-be when she finds out her girlfriend is pregnant.

Going from destroyer to creator/protector is a major swerve, but parents still have plenty of violent and brutal moments to contend with, especially when the world is full of pyrokinetic sleeper agents, animal/hybrid muscle-squads, and one hell of a nasty boss pulling your…
