REVIEW: 'Colossi' #3 by Ricardo Mo, Alberto Muriel, and Stelladia

This magic bus ride has landed in some very strange territory. In fact, the passengers of Shuttle 34 have entered the land of Lilliputians where they are the Lilliputians. It's not all bad but it is increasingly dangerous and the time to move is now.

'Colossi' from Ricardo Mo, Alberto Muriel, and Stelladia is where 'Lost' and 'The Twilight Zone' meet. In a future world, the driver and passengers of commuter Shuttle 34 take an abrupt detour through a wormhole arriving in another dimension where they are the size of action figures on a planet much like earth. If you've seen 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,' then you'll get the gist with similar stakes except for some other-worldly pursuers.

Mo creates a varied group of characters and Carmen the driver leads them as best she can when others try to do their own things. There's …

REVIEW: 'Blood Brothers: Hermanos De Sangre' #1 by Fabian Rangel, Jr. and Javier Caba

The spirit of indie comics is alive and well at Dynamite Entertainment. 'Blood Brothers: Hermanos De Sangre' #1 by Fabain Rangel, Jr., and Javier Caba a free-wheeling fantasy series with a lot of charm and mystery.

Diego and Gabriel Soliz are brothers with a particular set of skills. They're not your typical detectives but then again, there's nothing typical about their world. Diego likes a drink or two with a side order of mayhem. The clean-cut and slim Soliz brother is a magnet for trouble because his aggressive style has given him a less than great reputation. Gabe, by comparison, is the level-headed gentle giant who dresses as a luchador and has the skills to prove it. It comes in handy when Diego's mouth gets him in trouble. Oh, Diego a…

REVIEW: 'Redneck' #3 by Donny Cates, Lisandro Estherren, and Dee Cunniffe

Donny Cates is one of the busiest writers in comics for a reason. He keeps reinventing genres, putting new more thoughtful spins on age-old tropes. He just finished the great fantasy miniseries, God Country, with Geoff Shaw, Jason Wordie, and Dee Cunniffe. There's a running theme with 'Redneck,' his latest title with Image Comics, that was also in 'Country' - family comes first.

It just so happens that this family has a thirst for blood and avoids the deadly effects of the sun for more reasons than a sunburn. Vampire stories have been done and redone but thankfully Cates emphasizes the familial aspects over the sensational gory ones. With that said, this issue starts off where issue #2 left off with a bloody mess. Cates bypasses the entire fight that leads to the aftermath. It's an interesting d…

Atomic Blonde Creator Antony Johnston Returns with GHOST STATION ZERO this August

Writer Antony Johnston (THE FUSE, Atomic Blonde/The Coldest City) and artist Shari Chankhamma (THE FUSE) will launch GHOST STATION ZERO, a new four-issue CODENAME BABOUSHKA mission, this September from Image Comics.

"Ghost Stations" are abandoned Soviet bases from the Cold War, long forgotten and useless...or so people think! When an EON agent goes missing on the trail of a ghost station in the Swiss mountains, Mr. Clay turns to crime-boss-turned-blackmailed-international-superspy BABOUSHKA to investigate—and what she finds is explosive!
“Fans already know that Baboushka is an all-action modern pulp heroine,” said Johnston. “But we hope people new to her adventures (especially fans of Atomic Blonde, ahem) will get on board the roller coaster ride of GHOST STATION ZERO, because we're turning it up to 11, cutting the brake lines, and mixing our metaphors all over the place. New villains, new gadgets, new plots to take over the world...all in a day's work for Baboushka,…

REVIEW: 'The Dregs' #4 by Lonnie Nadler, Zac Thompson, Eric Zawadzki, and Dee Cunniffe

The beauty of independent comics is the passion and expertise of telling an original story that doesn't depend on legacy characters or a predermined outcome. Black Mask studios' 'The Dregs' by Lonnie Nadler, Zac Thompson, Eric Zawadzki, and Dee Cunniffe is an example of the best that indies have to offer. In the conclusion of the miniseries, the creative team demonstrates the ability to create a satifying mystery with an even more horrific underlying real-world message.
