First Footage of Disney's 'Moana' Starring Dwayne Johnson

Disney's 'Moana' won't open for another eleven months but thanks to Disney Channel and JoBlo, there's a sneak peek of the animated film that was just released. Hawaii native and newcomer Auli'i Cravalho will voice the young South Pacific adventurer in search of a mythical island. She'll be helped by larger-than-life demi-god Maui voiced by the larger-than-life megastar Dwayne Johnson.
In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.
The featurette is short, only offering seconds of actual footage and some behind-the-scenes shots of Cravalho and Johnson, but it looks unlike anything Disney has done. It's a more sophisticated looking animated feature than the excellent 'Lilo & Stitch' that was also was set in the South Pacific.

'Moana' will also be a musical while moving away from familiar Princess tropes Disney is known for. Moana is an independent spirit with a fearless sense of adventure. The film is slated for release on November 23, 2016.
